Reflection: Where Darkness Becomes a Doorway

"You darkness, that I come from,

I love you more than all the fires

that fence in the world,...

But the darkness pulls in everything:

shapes and fires, animals and myself,

how easily it gathers them!...

~ Rainer Maria Rilke

Seven generations gathered under the Sagittarius Dark Moon and Winter Solstice, standing at the threshold of the longest night to be witnessed as we crossed into something new. Together, we called back the power we had lost or given away across time and space.

We got curious about what we are willing to release so the future can arrive. Wildflowers offered to the fire:

  • The daughter/sister I was & responsibility for others’ emotions

  • The urgency to fix things quickly

  • Fear woven into caregiving

  • Control over others

  • Arguing for my own limitations

  • Loneliness & disconnection

  • Where I think I should be

  • Moving too fast & living in busyness

If any of these threads feel familiar, know you are not alone.  We returned to the body through embodiment—allowing inner spaces to blossom under the light of our own presence. I am always in awe of how a little attention and listening downward brings us home to the wisdom of the body. From there, guiding lights emerged—values that recalibrate our inner compass.

Through reflection, we honored what is ending and what grew within us this year.

Fire was our threshold. One by one, each wildflower stepped forward, speaking what they are carrying into rebirth as we sang them through the Solstice birth portal that pulled future timelines forward. We with-nessed one another into wholeness, holding space for the love and grace that may not have been received before.

Our rituals physicalize the spiritual and spiritualize the physical, so the soul knows something has shifted—even before the mind can name it.

If you are feeling the call to be brave in community, you are warmly invited to join us for the Cancer Full Moon Circle, where we will honor our light in the darkness and gather in nourishment together with a potluck before circle.

May you walk gently into what is next, held by community and guided by your inner compass.

With love from the threshold, until we gather again.

Rainer Maria Rilke
Translated by Robert Bly

You darkness, that I come from,
I love you more than all the fires
that fence in the world,
for the fire makes
a circle of light for everyone,
and then no one outside learns of you.

But the darkness pulls in everything:
shapes and fires, animals and myself,
how easily it gathers them! —
powers and people —

and it is possible a great energy
is moving near me.

I have faith in nights.
